Biography
Hello, my name is Brian Best, and I write music. Since I was very young, I have always been intrigued by music and how it works and how it is written. In my high school band days, I had always marveled at how composers could combine all the different elements in a band to create the desired sound that they were looking for, and I honestly thought that such a task would be nearly impossible for myself to do. This desire to learn more about music and it's functionality coupled with the fact that I have been a life long gamer, set me on my path to become a video game music composer.
After my high school band days, I was unleashed upon the world with little other direction. Eventually, I found a niche in djing, and I took pride in the fact that I was strictly a vinyl, break-beat dj. As time passed, I continued to look for ways to be more than just a dj, which quickly led me to purchasing my first DAW, Ableton Live. For the first couple of years I tinkered with the program, focusing primarily on EDM, and began taking several music theory classes at the local community college. It wasn't long before I realized that I was picking back up on the music theory very quickly and it almost seemed to come naturally for me. I continued my education and enrolled in as many music and media classes that I could possibly find. Once I graduated with my AA degree, I knew that I still needed much more knowledge if I wanted to pursue a career in composition, so I enrolled at Full Sail University in their Music Production Bachelor of Science Degree program.
My time at Full Sail has been somewhat of a whirlwind, and I have learned more than you care to read about in my two plus years, but everything has been covered, from the technology to advanced composition and much, much more. What's even better about the program is the fact that it is online, so it forces you to become a self-starter and gives you the dedication to be able to complete jobs on your own time, by a hard deadline. I also take great pride in the fact that I have completed the program with a GPA of 3.96. Now I am in a very exciting time in my career with the creation of my own business and actively pursuing opportunities to get my own compositions into the games that I have so loved throughout my life.
